ABOUT

A SE London blog full of photography, recipes, travel & Chesini bike rides.
It is about what interests & inspires me.

Originally set up too prove SE London was worth a visit NEWJ is slowly becoming more a collection of people, places and small businesses that inspire me to do more with my life.
Even if it just means to write about it.....

I have always found blogs a great source of information and insight. They tell me things that are going on in surrounding areas and give me a visual idea of what places look like. Guide books date very quickly but blogs are updated weekly!

I started NEVER EAT WOBBLY JELLY in 2009 after realising how much I got from blogs and felt I should start sharing places I'd been too as well things I have cooked. However I was under the impression that it would be only just friends and family, but it turns out other people I don't know also read it!? So I hope you find it informative and helpful.

As an enthusiastic person, I find it hard to stay still and get bored very easily. This has led me into cooking, baking, photographing and creating stuff in general to keep myself occupied. So when I'm not totally busy, I try to record and share what I've done on the blog.

I'm always interested to hear of any new places I should visit or things to do or make, so please do feel free to drop me a line to tell me about any you know off.

Why is your blog called "Never Eat Wobbly Jelly"?
Short answer is; No one else has used that as a blog name.

It's quite a long winded story actually... but quite a funny one...
The long answer is as follows:

It was when I was 4 years old. My family had just finished a delicious Sunday Roast cooked by my mum. My dad went to change to do some gardening and my sister had gone to her room. Before my mum set about doing the washing up, she gave me a bowl of strawberry jelly for desert. I liked desert not much has changed!

Just as I stuck my spoon into the bright colour jelly, my dad came into the kitchen and GASPED "Emma! Have you eaten any of that jelly yet!?" At this point I'm holding the spoon to my face, mouth gapping and jelly dripping off...
"...err...no" I place the spoon back in the bowl completely confused.
"Thank goodness! I just wanted to check you knew the rules when eating jelly. Jelly is delicious but can also be incredibly dangerous if you don't follow the rules"
At this my eyes widen and I let go of the spoon.
"No, dad. I don't know the Jelly rules"
He then preceded to tell me how you can only eat jelly when it isn't wobbling. If you do eat wobbly jelly, the wobble will transfer onto your tongue and your tongue will start to wobble and then your head and then you whole body... and then you die.
He then smiled and said "enjoy you pudding I'm off to mow the lawn" and left the kitchen.

I then spent then next 30 minutes trying to eating the jelly whilst it was not wobbly. Yes. This is impossible. It wasn't until my mum asked why I hadn't eaten anything that she found my father outside in fits of laughter.. She soon told him off and he had to explain to me that I could eat it.... can't actually remember if I did or not in the end. Thus "NEVER EAT WOBBLY JELLY"
