WHEELERS OF WHITSTABLE

My recent trip to Whitstable was some time ago now, but I couldn't miss out on putting up another post up about the WHEELERS OYSTER BAR. It is such a fantastic place and nowhere quite like it. It is like sitting in your grans back room but being served high end delicious food. You usually have to book well in advance to get to eat here. However Ben somehow managed to book a table for five just after they'd had a cancellation! Yes lucky indeed!!

We took our friends Holly, Elliot  & little Rosalie along to sample their food. I think they also fell in love with the place too. Here is what we had...

Homemade Sourdough and Focaccia Bread with Wild Garlic Pesto

1/2 A DOZEN ROCKY OYSTERS

1/2 A DOZEN GUINNESS BATTERED OYSTERS

Finished with Hand Picked Crab, Apple & Kohlrabi Salad.

Elliot and I both went for the John Dory - My favourite fish!

I've been waiting a long time to try this and I can safely say it was well worth the wait!
Absolutely divine!! :)

Can't wait to find an excuse to go back....

QUICK BERRY MINT ICE CREAM

Everyone loves a quick tasty pudding, especially if it's practically healthy! This recipe is great if you want to impress with no stress and little time to spare.

BERRY ICE-CREAM
*Jamie Oliver's recipe from FOOD REVOLUTION

  • 1 x 500g pack of mixed frozen berries
  • 150g (5½oz) fresh blueberries
  • 3-4tbsp runny honey
  • 1 x 500g tub of natural yoghurt
  • A few sprigs of fresh mint
  • Put 4 small glasses in the freezer for the dessert

BERRY ICE-CREAM:

Get the glasses and the frozen berries out of the freezer. Divide the fresh blueberries between the glasses. Put the honey and yoghurt and leaves from the sprigs of mint into the food processor and whiz, then add the frozen berries and whiz again until combined. Spoon the frozen yoghurt over the fresh berries and serve.

PRIMAVERA // CARVOEIRO

Whilst on Holiday mum and I scouted out Carvoeiro for places to eat and found this lovely restaurant just on the outskirts of town. We were so impressed with Primavera, the food, the atmosphere and outstanding service that we ended up going twice!

On our arrival we were informed of the live music that evening was the Sax player, who was great. We were then brought over some freshly baked mini bread buns which were really light and fluffy, plus still warm!

After sampling the wine from the Duro region that was recommended by the waiter our starters arrived! Juicy melon with Palma ham and the Scallops with a balsamic & pesto reduction.

Carrying on the with the fish theme, mum went for the Piri Piri prawns with homemade tagliatelle and I went for the Sea Bream with summer vegetables and new potatoes.

After such delicious food and wine, we decided on treating ourselves to a pudding. I opted for the Panna-Cotta with wild berry compote and mum went for some of the local Algarve Chocolate and vanilla ice cream

If you are planning on going to Carvoeiro I cannot recommend Primavera enough. It was absolutely superb. I just wish it was just round the corner from home.

ARLO & MOE'S Burger Night

This Wednesday, Ben, Chesini and I headed over for Burger Night at Arlo & Moe's in Borckley / Crofton Park. They opened back in September 2012 and have already found some loyal customers, that includes us ;)

It's a superb little place which we've been too for brekkie and lunch. It open's on the odd occasion in the evening too, which up until now I've been unable to go as I was bust doing something else.
Chesini Has been off the road for a bit due to brake failure!? But she's all sorted now and back on the tarmac! Wednesday she got me from Hither Green to Hoxton and then back down to Brockley for an A&M Burger!

I went for the Broad Bean Burger and Ben went for the Classic 100% Beef washed down with a couple bottles of Honey Dew and finished off with a Coke Float and ice cream sandwich with hundreds and thousands!!!

Some things just can't be beat.

Scream for Ice Cream!

Don't know if I've mentioned it before? But I like ice cream. I love ice cream. Actually to be fair if there was an ICA (Ice Cream Anonymous)  I would be part of it.
Salcombe has in total SIX places you can purchase a freashly scooped dollop of heaven and this year there was also a range of cornets to choose from - Salcombe, I was impressed!

Knowing I'd be spending a whole week in the place I believe was the creation for my obsession (understandable if you've tried the ice cream there) I have been on the waggon so to speak and have been quite 'calm' with ice cream to the run up to going to Salcombe.

Here are a few of the ice cream we tried whilst we were there.....
....and yes there were more that didn't get snapped too :D

Chocolate Mix and Pete what was that one?

Clotted Cream Vanilla and Walnut Caramel

Blackcurrents & Cream and Toffee

 Ken's Mint Choc Chip & Salcombe's Honeycomb

Another Honeycomb and Slacombe's Mint Choc Chip (my fav mint choc chip, bit pepperminty-lush)

Rum & Rasin and the Classic Vanilla (yes variations on vanilla!)

Fancy an Ice Cream now?....
Always!
:D
